Drunk Russian monk arrested for aggressive wielding of stick

A drunk Russian man dressed in a monk’s lungi (just the skirt) was arrested last night for disturbing people with a stick on a street in Chachoengsao province.

The man, only identified as “Vola,” was detained on Bangkwan Road after locals alerted authorities to a man with a stick who seemed violent. He seemed to be drunk and told police he was on the way to see his father in Chonburi.

Vola said he traveled from Moscow to become a monk at the Prong Ar-gat temple in Chachoengsao province three years ago. Last night, he went out drinking and smoking with his Thai friends, and the mischief started after everyone separated to go home. Then he was caught by police.

Vola will be prosecuted for causing a disturbance. Police will check with temple if he is a legit monk. If yes, the Russian man will be forced to give up the remaining pieces of his robe and leave the monkhood entirely, Morning News reported.ฃ
