Relive the ‘Fall of Phnom Penh’ through someone who was there

Forty years ago this month the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh fell into darkness as the Khmer Rouge seize power and began its bloody reign of terror in 1975.

French photographer Roland Neveu was there and later this month will mark the anniversary by showing it through his eyes and lens at Soy Sauce Factory.

“As of the witnesses of the last days of the Khmer Republic in early 1975, I was fortunate enough to have remained until the very end of the Lon Nol regime,” Neveu wrote. “This was my early years as a photo-reporter, but the pictures I acquired during this time are now history and the scarcity of images from the period make them even more precious to the new generations of Cambodians in particular.”

Neveu will also launch an updated version of his book, which will be on sale at the event.

The opening reception starts at 7pm on April 24 and runs through May 24.
