Somehow, no matter how many fancy new malls open their doors, the public still throngs to MBK Center every day.
Soon the crowds of students, tourists and locals who pore over the iconic mall’s souvenirs, handicrafts, cheap fashion and many rai of mobile phone shops will have a whole new MBK to savor in northern Bangkok.
MBK 2.0 will be built atop 20 acres of land on Tiwanon Road north of Bangkok in Pathum Thani. It will also include movie theaters, a fitness gym and food court, according to Sirichai “Mr. MBK” Boonkul.
The new MBK will stick to the same concept as the original. Everything from second-hand shops to IT and fashion stores will fill the building’s four floors. OTOP products will also be featured along with restaurants, banks, beauty clinics and cram schools.
The construction is expected to cost THB8 billion, with an opening day penciled for late 2016, Bangkok Biz News reported.
