Want to be the first aboard Bangkok’s newest light rail line? Happy to be a guinea pig for its safety?
Transportation officials will preview the MRT Purple Line’s fast rides to Nonthaburi for one day only this December, three months before it is officially scheduled to open.
The Ministry of Transport announced it would open a public trial of the new line on Dec. 5 for citizens to celebrate Father’s Day. After that, an abbreviated testing cycle (reduced to four months from the expected six months) will begin before the line officially opens at the end of March.
That’s five months earlier than it was scheduled to open, if you discount several delays due to events such as the 2011 floods, Daily News reported.
The purple people mover will hook into the current Blue Line’s terminal at Bang Sue. Ultimately the completed 23-kilometer route will run from Bang Bua Thong to Bang Yai in Nonthaburi province, passing Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon, Banglamphu, Wongwian Yai and Ratchaburana stations to end at Phra Pradaeng in Samut Prakan for a total of 16 stations.
