At 5:30pm this Tuesday, a five-meter-long, 15-kilogram king cobra was found curled up behind a refrigerator at a house in Trang’s Huaiyot district. In front of a nervous crowd, Chalerm Jittrawut, 38, spent an hour using his bare hands to catch the venomous reptile and release it back into the wild.
This is the second time that Chalerm, a rescue volunteer, has demonstrated his unique skills and bravery. In late February, Chalerm caught a cobra with a length and weight similar to the one he captured recently.
Chalerm works as a butcher at a market and has voluntarily worked as a snake catcher for two years. He earlier told press that he never received trainings on snake catching. Chalerm believes that the God of Snake protects him from getting attacked, making him feel at ease every time he approaches the deadly animal.
