Online outrage after woman offers Ketamine to five-year-old boy

Parenting became a hot topic in the Thai press today after a video showing a woman offering Ketamine to a young boy surfaced online late last night.

The film, shared by Facebook public page Nero Liberator at around 8pm, swiftly grabbed the attention of the online community and was subsequently featured in a mainstream newscast this morning.

In the video, the boy, rougly five years old, told the woman that he wanted to “inhale Ketamine,” known as Ya K or K in Thai. The woman, who viewers initially assumed was the boy’s mother, folded a THB20 banknote and poured Ketamine powder into it. She instructed the boy to inhale the drug through his nostrils and broke into laughter.

“You are so cool,” she said at the video’s end.

After the video went viral, the woman reportedly posted several status updates in an effort to repudiate the accusation. She said that the boy had actually inhaled baby powder, an excuse deemed nonsensical by netizens.

The Ketamine video also prompted a parody. The mock version starts with a girl asking for K from his father. The father, in turn, offers her the letter “K,” from an English alphabet poster, for inhalation.
