Inquest determines army bullet killed Italian photographer in 2010

An inquest by the South Bangkok Criminal Court has determined that a high velocity bullet, such as those issued to Thai army soldiers, caused the death of 48-year-old Italian photographer Fabio Polenghi during a crackdown on anti-government protestors in 2010.

Though the investigation stopped short of actually stating that the Thai military had killed Polenghi, the results of the inquest strongly point to that conclusion.

According to the Associated Press, Polenghi was shot while attempting to photograph a Thai army assault on the Red Shirt camp in central Bangkok.

Polenghi was one of at least 91 people that were killed during 2010’s period of violent unrest.
