Update: Rod Fai Market takes warehouse behind Insquare Mall JJ as temporary shelter before moving to Srinakarin Road

The Rod Fai Market, known popularly as the “Train Market,” will be temporarily operating at a warehouse behind Insquare Mall JJ for five months, starting next weekend, before moving to a new location on Srinakarin Road.

As reported by Coconuts, the dispute between vendors at the Market and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) intensified this week after the abrupt demolition of the market site. A construction company hired by the SRT employed five backhoes to clear the site for construction of the Bang Sue-to-Rang Sit, “Red Line” Skytrain extension.

During an emergency meeting between the two parties that took place yesterday, the SRT agreed to let vendors use its warehouse in the Chatuchak area while they are seeking a new home. Some of the vendors will move to a private property on Srinakarin Road Soi 15 that the operators of the Market will lease for 15 years.

This weekend is the last that the Rod Fai Market will be operating at its original site, which it has called home for the past three years.
