MRTA wants to connect Airport Rail Link with regional train lines

Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) governor Yongsit Rojsrikul has announced his intentions to connect Bangkok’s Airport Rail Link to regional networks of trains leading from the Kingdom to Laos and China.

In a statement to the press, Yongsit laid out a plan that would have the Airport Rail Link connect with its regional partners via the Bang Sue rail station.

Whether or not this plan reaches fruition depends on the largess of the Laos government and the MRTA’s ability to hold to its own ambitions. The MRTA has also long harbored plans to connect Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports via rail, though these have borne little in the way of fruit.

The Bangkok Post reports that this latest burst of ambition owes to a report from German engineering giant Siemens, which suggests that the Airport Rail Link would form a good partner for its Laos and Chinese equivalents.
