Plan underway to issue IDs to Thailand’s monkeys

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has revealed plans to manage the dozens of monkey troops running wild throughout Thailand. The plan will also outfit the monkeys with health check-ups and issue them identification cards.

Theerapat Prayurasiddhi, the Deputy director-general, said there are roughly 50 troops of monkeys throughout Thailand.

The wild monkeys have caused problems for villagers. Monkeys located in more built up areas are known to be even noisier and more aggressive. The Department has listed 500 to 600 monkeys that are known to have aggressive behavior and have already caused problems to villagers and tourists alike, the Bangkok Post reported.
