Thai boxer Denkaosan title fight in Bangkok this August

Denkaosan Kaovichit (pictured) will fight Nobuo Nashiro for the Interim WBA World Super Flyweight Title in Bangkok on August 23rd.

Kaovichit (61-3-1) is a  former 112 lbs WBA champion who will be looking to secure a second world title at the age of 36 while Nashiro (19-5-1) has fought for this belt numerous times winning it in 2006 and 2008.

The Japanese fighter’s two most recent losses both came at the hands of Thai opponents, Suriyan Sor Rungvisai beating him by unanimous decision in a 2011 fight for the WBC super flyweight title and Tepparith Kokietgym winning by majority decision in a WBA World super flyweight title fight last year.

Kaovichit made his professional debut in 1996 and and has not lost a fight since 2010 when he traveled to Panama only to get stopped in the first round by Luis Concepcion in a fight for the interim WBA World flyweight title.

The WBA’s regular 115 lbs belt is currently held by Liborio Solis who won it by beating Koheo Kono only last month and it’s not entirely clear why an interim strap is being given out so soon after a fight for the actual title.
