Flood drains to be enlarged by the BMA

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is looking to enlarge the flood drains in key areas of Bangkok in order to assist in the prevention of floods.

Areas such as Don Muang often flood when it rains heavily. Many of the drains in these districts measure only 30-to-60 centimeters in diameter. This is too small, according to the director of the BMA’s Department of Drainage and Sewerage, Adisak Khantee. He called special attention to the Nathanant 3 and Kosum Ruamjai housing estates, and the Wat Phai Khieo community, singling them out as areas with insufficient drainage.

Many of Don Muang’s main roads, such as Chang Akat Uthit, have drains of only 80 centimeters in diameter, instead of the required 1.5 meters, the Bangkok Post reported.
