The teenage pregnancy problem in Thailand has worsened over the past few years, as the number of teenage pregnancies continues to rise and girls begin having children at younger and younger ages.
A recent study, funded by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, revealed that on average, 10 Thai girls under 15 years of age gave birth everyday in 2011. The number was 370 for girls under 20 during the same time period. The youngest mom ever recorded was a 10-year-old girl, who gave birth in Nakhon Panom last month.
Teenage pregnancy has topped the list of social issues pressing on high school students. The study also disclosed a shocking fact that many parents even provided porn for their children to watch.
According to Thairath, the study’s results might have become even more worrisome if every school participated in the study.
