Transport Minister sets out to experience Bangkok bus woes, winds up opting for private driver

In an attempt to swallow some of his own medicine, Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt decided this Thursday to take a bus from Dusit to Don Muang Airport, where he was scheduled for a flight.

The Minister has as of late been invoking Thai politicians to try out Bangkok’s bus system and gain firsthand knowledge of the city’s transportation woes. Chadchart, however, wound up with more firsthand knowledge than he had bargained for, as his bus turned up a half-hour late.

After spending a sizable interval waiting for the bus, Chadchart had to summon his driver to take him from Victory Monument to Don Muang in order to keep from missing his flight.

A staffer from the Nation caught up with Chadchart and snapped some pictures of the Minister while he waited for a bus that never came. You can check out those pictures here, where they remain a testament both to Bangkok’s traffic woes and to the hubris from which they spring.
