700 pigs killed in farm fire

A pig in the prime of life

A Sunday morning fire in a pig farm in Prachin Buri’s Nadee district killed more than 700 pigs.

Local firefighters were called to the scene early in the morning where a huge conflagration was ravaging through two large pig farms. The fires, in Prasit Farm in Tambon Nadee, took around 30 minutes to contain, by which point most of the farm animals were already deceased.

The farm’s owner, Prasit Paoaumpa, stated that 729 piglets and 50 out of 67 sows were killed during the fire while those that escaped suffered burns. Prasit claimed he was asleep when the fire broke out and was woken by the loud screams of the pigs. He was still estimating the damage caused but guessed that it would cost around THB3 million, the Bangkok Post reported.
