Man’s ‘mission to leave planet Earth’ ends with hijacked bus crash in Ayutthaya

Yesterday, a mentally ill man hijacked a No. 34 bus at Victory Monument, claiming that he needed to commandeer this vehicle in order to rendezvous with alien associates who would help him escape from planet Earth.

The self-described “superhero” piloted his captured conveyance down the tollway to Ayutthaya, where a police blockade finally arrested his progress, leading to his capture.

Prasit Sookinn, the 56-year-old driver of the purloined bus, told Phayathai police that Phumrin Phansomboon boarded the vehicle at Victory Monument and started brandishing a slingshot and harassing other passengers with a “loud and intimidating rant.” Prasit told all passengers to get off before letting himself off as well.

Phumrin later drove the vehicle off down Phaholyothin Road, striking a variety of parked cars along the way. No injuries were reported.

According to witnesses, Phumrin got onto the expressway by smashing through a tollbooth near Central Lat Phrao.

He was arrested in Ayutthaya after crashing into an 18-wheeler that had been arranged across the road as part of a police blockade. Law enforcement officials are in the process of handing Phumrin back over to the Phayathai police station.

Police found an admission card to Srithanya Psychiatric Hospital in Phumrin’s possession. According to INN, Phumrin was recently discharged from the hospital and was waiting for his family to pick him up when he undertook his remarkable escapade.
