The majority of young Buddhists are apparently not swayed by the seemingly incessant coverage of bad monk behavior, according to a new poll from Siam Technology College.

The poll’s results, which are based on the responses of 1,028 Bangkok teens, suggest that despite recent media reports, 74.22% have not lost their faith in the religion and 67.9% have not lost their faith in the monks.

Perhaps the poster boy for this trend in unscrupulous behavior is the notorious Luang Pu Nenkham who recently toped the DSI’s most wanted list.

When asked about the causes of the monks’ inappropriate behavior, 87.94% said it was each individual’s lust and greed that was at the root of the problem. 82.98% said overindulgence by devotees and 79.47% said inappropriate behavior from a monk’s close aids were also issues, MThai reported.
