LEARN TO DANCE: BK Dance Day

If your dance floor swag could use some freshening up, look no further than “BK Dance Day.” On Friday and Saturday, some of Bangkok’s best professional dancers are offering one-hour sessions on street dance, hip hop and jazz funk. At BK Dance Day, you can “waack” and “vogue” with the best of them or at the very least, get some fun exercise. The event is organized by the one and only Pan Pan Nakprasert, who you’ve probably seen parading in drag and dancing like a demon on the stages of Levels Nightclub and Bash. Also offering up their expertise is Thai pop star Debbie Bazoo and renowned choreographer, Kru Art Asakorn.

Friday and Saturday. 1pm to 8:20pm. THB 200 per class or THB 1,000 for seven classes. Dance Mania Studio, 5th floor, Cyber World. MRT Thailand Cultural Centre station.

DANCE: Regenerate: Disconnected

Now that you’ve got some new dance floor ammo under your belt from “BK Dance Day”, you’re well armed to hit the latest edition of Regenerate at Glow. There have been a few last minute changes to the line-up – legendary Detroit DJ Terrence Parker backed out of the performance due to unforeseen circumstances. However, Regenerate has bounced back by adding a couple new names to the flyer, including DJ Damian Porter from Australia, the Outsider and nolens.vens, who will be playing live techno using a computer and MIDI controllers, creating the sounds himself. Seasoned veteran Nat King Soul will also hit the decks. As half of the duo Deep House Brotherhood, he helped lay the ground for Bangkok’s nightlife as it exists today. Regenerate has also dropped the cover price to only THB 300 and free before midnight, so Regenerate is still shaping up as a solid bet to boogie down.

10pm. THB 300 or free before midnight. Glow Nightclub, Sukhumvit 23 (Asoke). BTS Asoke station.

BATTLE: Bass Clef presents The Apprentice

Get ready for blood, sweet and tears at the turntables at this DJing competition organized by the Bass Clef crew. They’ve handpicked three of Bangkok’s best up-and-coming underground DJs to duke it out, playing experimental and bass. The competition will be judged by a few of the scene’s familiar faces, and audience reaction will also play a part in the decision-making. The winner garners the opportunity to play a warm-up set for Bass Clef’s surprise international DJ coming next month. After the battle, DJ Tony B along with residents Orawan, Dizzle the DJ and Just are going to break down the heavy hip hop, trap and dubstep beats.

9:30pm. THB 300 or free entry before 11:30pm. Siam@Siam Design Hotel and Spa. BTS Siam station.

ROCK IT OUT: Nylon Music Night Out

Wiggle on your hot pants and hipster shades, the electro-rock group Futon is playing a reunion gig. This is one of the most successful indie bands to come out of Thailand, with hits like “Strap it on” and “Tokyo Sunset.” Now, it’s been a few years since Futon has gone their separate ways and a lot has changed since then for Gene, Bee and Oh. Lead singer Gene Kasidit has since launched a successful solo career and began dressing as a woman and Bee is editor of the longstanding Bed Sheets magazine. Futon is pulling out the guitars and mics for one more go, courtesy of pop culture mag Nylon. Futon will also be supported with performances by O-Pavee, Summer Stop and Supersub.

6:30pm. THB 250 (including one drink). Sonic Ekamai, between Ekamai Soi 10 and Big C. BTS Ekamai station.

Saturday

RAVE: Psyhead Community presents Shazz

For something under the radar and rather off the wall, the Psyhead Community is hosting its regular evening at Café Democ. South Africa’s DJ Shazz is joining residents All in One and Mushtribe to play a hallucinatory cocktail of psychedelic and hard trance. Get ready for a highly energetic evening of the sounds of Goa. By the way, did we mention entry is free and drinks are only THB 140?

9pm. Free entry. Café Democ, Silom Plaza, 491 Silom Rd. BTS Chong Nonsi station.

Sunday

That’s right! This Monday is a public holiday in Thailand, making for the much-coveted and illustrious long weekend extravaganza. Why should the party stop on Saturday?

HEADBANG: RAWR presents Borgore in Bangkok

Borgure, purveyor of dubstep beats and anthems, is hitting Bangkok for his debut performance. The city’s bass culture scene is excited, to say the least. Borgore is probably one of the most controversial characters in the global electronic music scene right now, with his loudmouth outbursts on social media and controversial stage presence, his trademark pole dancers on either side of the DJ booth. This will also probably be one of the last international DJs Bed Supperclub will host as its closing date continues to loom. Clear Monday’s brunch plans, this could get messy.

9pm. THB 500 (including one drink). Bed Supperclub, Sukhumvit 11. BTS Nana station.

CHILL OUT: Experimental pop by Put “Wednesday” Suksriwan

For something less action-packed but equally entertaining, Thai experimental guitar pop soloist Put “Wednesday” Suksriwan is taking to the stage. Look forward to warm-up talents World Not Bad and Deun Chomgmankhong.

7pm. Free entry. Harmonica, Ozono Complex, Sukhumvit Soi 38/1. BTS Phrom Pong station.
