Kicking off a food grazing weekend

Foodies, greenies and DIYers, rejoice! This weekend brings not one but two artisanal food markets: Bangkok Farmers Market at K Village and the new Spring Epicurean Market at Spring & Summer restaurant.

On Saturday, starting at 8am, the Bangkok Farmers Market will kick off at K Village. There was some confusion the past few months when Bo.lan stopped having their enormously popular monthly farmers market, but the new iteration at K Village just up the street on Soi 26 has stepped in admirably, expanding the duration, the vendors and the programming. Starting tomorrow, the market will run both Saturday and Sunday, from 8am to 4:30pm, and will feature talks on gardening, permaculture, Paleo eating, shampoo making and much else. As for vendors, there will be well over 80 this time. Expect a mix of prepared foods, organic vegetables, and natural skincare products. The market will also offer free activities for children, live music, and a special area for mothers and young kids. For more information, go to bkkfm.com

And if you liked Big Bite Bangkok a couple weekends ago, Spring Epicurean Market might be more your speed, milling about a green lawn while sipping coffee. Mind you, though, it’s on Sunday from 8am till noon, so late risers beware. Located next to the Iranian embassy on Soi Promsri (Sukhumvit Soi 49), Spring & Summer is a long-standing institution, famous for its beautiful house-and-garden compound. Now they’re getting involved with the weekend food market trend as well and are hoping to make the epicurean market a monthly affair. This time, among others, sausage man Joe Sloane will be grilling up homemade chorizo and Cumberlands, Twist will be selling hearty blended juices and Amatissimo from Paradise Park will bring its lovely pastries. You’ll also be able to shop for organic rice, olives, whole grains and more.
