10 questions for Bangkok trendsetter and Liberty Area One owner Khun Nod

An interview with Khun Nod, the owner and visionary behind multi-label store Liberty Area One.

Despite her insistence that she’s not a Bangkok trendsetter, we think Khun Nod has killer style and is quickly becoming a tastemaker through her eclectic store. We first spotted her hanging out with Bangkok’s fashionistas at the Brooklyn-style flea market Made by Legacy. After following her back to her store to peruse some cool brands on the cusp of stardom, we couldn’t help but pick her brain about fashion.

What are your favorite places to shop in Bangkok?

You’ll always find me at my store, so any chance I have to shop I’ll use it to check out the shops around me at Ekamai Soi 10. I also love Chatuchak market for cool one of a kind stuff.

What does fashion mean to you?

Identifying individual tastes of each person.

Trends you want to disappear from Bangkok streets?

Carrying or wearing fake products.

Your next fashion purchase will be….

A silver ring.

Who do you think is the biggest fashion star of Bangkok and why?

Gene Futon. I like her sense of style and the way she mixes and matches. She really dares to be different. That’s why I love her. Also, she’s got a good body and excellent taste, which does it for me!

What has changed in the Bangkok fashion scene in the last year?

In my opinion, I think the colorful trends of the last couple seasons are giving way to more black and white and minimal touches this year. Vintage fashion is still very popular and I love vintage. There’s more variety now and it keeps growing, but it will be a while before Bangkok can be a fashion hub like other big capital cities.

How did you decide to open a multi-label store?

I used to work at Harrods in London all day surrounded with tons of cool fashion brands that I couldn’t afford. I secretly dreamt that one day I would open a multi-brand store in Bangkok. So now I made my dream come true.

Do you consider yourself a trendsetter in Bangkok?

I don’t think so. I just wear what I like to fulfill my personal taste. I don’t really follow trends or try to set any trends.

Any style tips for Bangkokians?

Always be yourself and wear things that reflect your true style and make you feel good!

What’s coming next for you?

I’ll throw a grand opening for Liberty Area One in August. I’m also planning to launch my own brand (Liberty Area One) at the end of this year. So stay tuned!
