The environmental organization Greenpeace released a full set of photos showcasing yesterday’s cleanup operation at Koh Samet’s Phrao Bay following the July 27th PTT pipeline leak.
The photos reveal the painstaking oil removal process, which is being carried out as a joint operation between PTT and the Thai Navy. Officials are using vacuum pumps to suck up the crude oil-contaminated seawater and digging out dirty sand. They are also employing booms and paper to absorb oil residue on the grounds.
Greenpeace’s dramatic photographs show the effects on marine life such dead fish washing up on shore and crabs being fully covered by sticky black oil.
