Govt to create plan to tackle human trafficking

The Ministry of Labor has set up a committee tasked with tackling the human trafficking issue in Thailand.

For four years the country has been on the U.S. Watch List for trafficking.

According to Labor Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, the U.S. is paying attention to the abuse of rights in the fisheries and garment industries, which have earned Thailand a spot under category 2 of the human trafficking watch list.

Police Captain Chalerm said the Ministry of Labor will adopt the solutions, which he claimed are based on political science concepts, rather than through legal means in dealing with the issue.

150 fishing trawler operators will be invited to share and exchange their opinions on the plan.
