Train derails en route to Chiang Mai

A train headed to Chiang Mai was derailed inside a 100-year old tunnel in Uttaradit Muang. The train departed from Bangkok Friday night with 415 passengers. 6 carriages of the train derailed around 3 am Saturday morning in the 392-meter long Khao Pleung tunnel.

Passengers of the 6 damaged carriages were transported to buses to continue the journey to their final destination. The unaffected carriages continued toward Chiang Mai. The derailment caused Bangkok and Chiang Mai trains to suspend for hours for track repairs, reports The Nation
