PTT ‘Recklessness’ may have led to Koh Samet oil spill, DSI says

Tharit Pengdit, the chief of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), said yesterday that reckless actions taken by PTT Glocal Chemical Plc (PTTGC) might have caused the oil spill off of Koh Samet in Rayong province.

The DSI’s initial investigation raised possibilities that PTTGC potentially violated the Navigation in Thai Waters Act B.E.2546 by failing to turn off oil valves as soon as a leak happened or failing to keep pipelines in good operating condition. The agency will convene a meeting tomorrow to decide on whether to take the spill as their special case.

The PTTGC board will soon discuss assistance measures and compensation they would provide for affected businesses, Channel 3 reports.
