261 Rohingya migrants break free from detention cells to worship end of Ramadan

Hundreds of Rohingya migrants tore down a fence surrounding their three detention cells in order to hold a mass prayer for the end of Ramadan. Police offered to supervise prayer groups of five, but the migrants refused and tried to break down the metal doors of the center in Phang Nga on Thursday.

Police called in reinforcements of one hundred anti-riot police and local Islamic committee members to calm the migrants. Barricades were placed around the door to stop the Rohingya from breaking through.

When measures proved unsuccessful, authorities hosed the crowd with water and requested additional support to prevent the migrants from breaking through security lines.  The Rohingya eventually grew exhausted and were escorted to various police stations in the area, reported the Bangkok Post
