Wee for Free! Bus and Train Station toilets to be free

The Ministry of Tansportation has ordered all toilets at train and bus stations to be made free of charge.

Previously riders were asked to pay THB3-5 to use the toilets..

The man to thank for this development is Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, who on Monday said he thought they should be free services.

State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Prapat Chongsanguan said his enterprise had contractors clean and maintain toilets at train stations and allowed them to collect charges in return.

The free service policy would prompt the SRT to seek a government budget to manage the toilets, he said.

Wutthichart Kalayanamit, managing director of Transport Co, which operates inter-provincial buses, said his state enterprise was ready to follow the minister’s instructions but would first have to study the details of contracts with its toilet operators.

Mr Chadchart said the free bus and rail routes would be changed to better serve low-income earners, the Bangkok Post reported.
