Thailand has second most Line users in the world

Thailand has 18 million Line users, more than any country except Japan.

That and a whole lot more interesting factoids and future plans were revealed by Line Corporation CEO Akira Morikawa yesterday in a Tokyo press conference.

The chatting app boasts 230 million total users around the world, with 47 million in Japan, 18 million in Thailand, 17 million in Taiwan, and 14 million in Indonesia. Morikawa said that Line will also be unveiling a new series of games soon, and that the platform is the “fastest growing globalized service.”

The Japanese chatting app was the subject of some controversy last week when Thailand technology police reportedly requested chat records of Thai users to scan for “threatening” activity, Startup-Dating reported.
