The CEO of the social chat service Line says he would never reveal the users’ chat records without a Japanese court order.
Regarding Thai police’ request to investigate Line users’ personal information and chat records if they violate the law or threaten national security, CEO Morikawa Akira revealed Line hasn’t received an official request from the Thai police or any country and would not respond unless the Thai police obtained a Japanese court order. In addition, Line doesn’t have a policy to invade its users’ privacy.
Jin-Woo Lee, the General Manager responsible Line’s business in Thailand insists that the Thai police have not contacted them yet. Even if they the police were to seek a court order, it will be a long and time-consuming process. To begin with the Thai police would need a Thai court order to contact Japan’s government. Then the Japanese court will consider if the request is reasonable enough for Line to reveal any information, the Daily News reported.
