THAI Airways crash causes delays at Suvarnabhumi airport

Over 200 flights face delays at Suvarnabhumi airport due to the runway that was damaged by a THAI Airways flight crash landing on Sunday being closed until Wednesday.

All airlines affected by the closure of the runway were informed of an Airports of Thailand (AOT) offer that they could use Don Mueang as an alternative airport during this time, but none wished to do so.

Thai Airways president Sorajak Kasemsuvan said that the crash was beyond the pilots’ capacity to control and the 18-year-old Airbus A330-300 underwent a full inspection and routine maintenance before the flight departed from Guangzhou, China.

The THAI Airways flight had 288 passengers and 14 crew on board. The worst injury sustained by a passenger was a broken wrist, reported the Nation.
