Does Yanhee Hospital’s nose job ad discriminate against Esan girls?

A questionable message on Yanhee Hospital’s advert for plastic surgery has caused some people to claim that the ad discriminates against and specifically targets women from Esan or the Northeast of the country.

The message reads: “Yanhee encourages Thai girls to get your dream nose. New campaign: Esan girls can be beautified by Yanhee Hospital. Get a nose surgery from an experienced plastic surgeon for THB5,000 only (normally THB9,900).”

This advert is not the first to have caused a public outrage. Last month, Dunkin’ Donuts had to apologize for their blackface adverts, and in May a beauty drink, Verena L-Gluta Berry Plus, launched a commercial about a woman with African parents whose skin turned white with the help of the beauty drink.

The general feeling on social media sites is that the discriminatory and racist messages need to stop.
