Nothing can seem to save a popular beach destination near Bangkok drowning beneath a daily tsunami of trash.
Every morning before dawn workers fan out in a desperate attempt to remove the more than 9,000 kilograms of junk which show up daily.
That’s about 2.2 tons of trash for each of the 4.5 kilometers which comprise the beach, also called “Bang Saen the Utopia.”
The disgusting deluge actually comes from inland, according to Mayor Narongchai Khunplome. Being a river delta, monsoon season essentially flushes trash from throughout Thailand onto the beach. It rides out to sea on the many outlets as a kind of debris superhighway, then is pushed back ashore by tidal action, NNT reported.
