33 ‘dek vanz’ arrested for street racing in Yannawa

This morning police broke up a street race just before it was about to begin, arresting 33 teen motorists for noise disturbances and confiscating 37 adapted motorcycles.

Yannawa district authorities set up a checkpoint at Soi Naradhiwat 20 to arrest a gang of dek vanz (teen motorcycle racers, often unlicensed and riding illegally adapted bikes). The 33 culprits aged 15-20 have also been charged with unlicensed driving, not wearing a helmet, and possessing illegally modified vehicles.

In the process, one officer was hit hard by one of the motorists, who left his vehicle behind and sprinted off the scene. The officer was later admitted to the hospital.

The authorities invited the teens’ guardians to Bangpongpang police station to pay off the fine and record the arrest, Khaosod reported.
