Locals in Isaan’s Sakhon Nakhon province are reportedly resorting to eating dog meat and brains, due to rapid inflation in the price of beef.

A local dog meat trader said that dog meat and brains are increasingly replacing cow and buffalo due to affordable prices and the belief that eating dog’s brain will somehow enhance sexual ability, Sanook reported.
The recipe is quite simple and popular among youngsters. Simply, grill a brain over a fire and then boil it until well-done. Dog’s brain is commonly served with an alcoholic beverage, and a popular way to enjoy those savory bits involve a straw inserted through the dog’s nose. How creative is that?
A chopped dog’s head only costs around THB50-70 in the fresh market. The price can go up to THB100 for a black dog’s head as locals believe eating black dogs will also keep them warm and healthy in winter.
As for dog meat, locals commonly mix it up with chili, garlic, and mint to create a laab (spicy meat salad). Delicious!
Before these dog days, Isaan locals had been eating buffalo’s brains for generations, especially women who believe that its consumption leads to glowing skin.
