A sigh was heard throughout Thailand as smartphone users learned they can continue turning their faces into cute cartoon characters without fear.
An information security official has dispelled rumors which began spreading this morning that Mo Man Xiang Ji, an explosively popular Chinese phone app, was stealing credit card information from its users.
Anudit Nakaratap, Information and Communication Technology minister, said today that a careful investigation had found the rumors to be false.
The Chinese-made app allows users to transform their faces into gorgeous anime-style cartoons. While the sepia-toned cartoons have been flooding Facebook feeds, especially during Halloween, the application had been blamed for stealing credit card information.
The story began when the owner of a whitening cream store posted a warning on her shop’s Facebook page claiming the application had stolen credit card information from an acquaintance, warning people to delete the app, MThai reported. Those warnings rapidly spread online.
Mo Man Xiang Ji is currently the most popular free-download application on Apple Store. What’s special about the app is not only the way it changes users’ faces into a cartoon but also puts their faces on cartoon bodies in user-selected poses, clothing and hair styles.
Many Thai celebrities have shown a fondness for this app. Coconuts agrees our logo looks quite impressive in a Chinese cartoon version as well.
