Police arrest Olympian’s mom-in-law after dramatic TV confession

Police have arrested the mother-in-law of slain Olympic sport shooter Jakkrit Panichpatikum after her dramatic, televised confession this morning.

Surang Duangchinda, 70, admitted on Channel 3 this morning that she put a hit on her son-in-law, who was shot to death in his car last month, to save her daughter from years of physical and psychological abuse.

Dr. Nitiwadee Pucharoenyos, Jakkrit’s 36-year-old wife, handed herself in along with her mother at 11am today after police issued warrants for their arrest last night.

That development came after a woman reportedly confessed to police that she helped Surang find an assassination team. Warapanpuri Montriarikul, who was a patient of Jakkrit’s wife and said she was not paid, allegedly introduced Surang to a lawyer named Santi Tongsem who accepted THB1.2 million reward to arrange a murder of her son-in-law.

Last night Santi reportedly contacted the police, but there there was no clear indication when he will turn himself in.

On Friday, The police in Chonburi province arrested the sniper who fired the shots that killed the 40-year-old Olympian. His reported confession was the break which led police up the chain of suspects, Sanook and Khaosod reported.
