To increase green areas in the city, the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority will combine three adjacent parks in the Chatuchak district.
City Hall announced yesterday that Chatuchak Park, Queen Sirikit Park and the Railway Park will become one park with a combined area of 287 acres.
Although this doesn’t seem like it will create any new park space in the city, it will allow the new Chatuchak Park to steal the title of biggest-downtown park from Lumphini Park, with its mere 142 acres.
Public hearings on the matter have concluded and BMA is designing the merged park, which will include routes connecting the park areas and a landmark area, according to the administration’s Banjong Sukdee. This entire project will be finished in two months, again, probably because there is no new park space being created.
However two new parks are under construction: a 1.2-acre park at Charan Sanitwong Soi 42 in Bang Phlat district and another 13.4 acres in the Vatcharapol area, Bangkok Post reported.
