Either a teen mutant freak is loose, or someone’s selling something

Yes, you read it correctly.

In a video posted Monday, what appears to be a Thai university student goes totally Chronicle in the middle of a dispute with a Bangkok bus driver.

In the footage making its rounds online today, which some suspect could be part of a sub rosa movie marketing campaign, a female student shows a serious demonstration of superhuman sorcery after being kicked off a bus.

“Did you buy your driver’s license?” shouts the irate student.

The offended driver responds “How dare you! I’m gonna…” and reaches to slap the girl, when she swats him away with supernatural force at the 1:05-minute mark.

The student, who appears shocked by her own superpower, starts screaming as her powers wreak havoc on a nearby food vendor and other objects.

The video is good for the lolz, but seems to borrow liberally from a movie promo for the remake of Carrie, which launched last month and features a crazy psychic-girl prank in a coffee shop.

In that one, actors in a cafe react to a woman who settles a conflict with a demonstration of telekinetic ability, all for the benefit of an unsuspecting, innocent voyeur. The video even ends with the same scream as the wall collapses.

There is a fine line between inspirations, imitation and copy-catting, but maybe the Thai version of Carrie took it a bit too far. Most netizens in the comment section agree the bus situation is creative and fits Thailand well, but the scream at the end might just be a pointer that admits: Ok, Imma just gonna copy the whole dialogue.

The video was released into a personal channel of the unknown Watchara. Whoever that is, someone seems to have spent some money on the production, from the bus and actors to the collapsing food vendors, which fueled conspiracy among netizens that the video might be a corporate guerrilla marketing attempt to promote the movie Carrie in Thailand.

Whatever this might be, we hope for some answers soon. For now, let’s say both videos are an entertaining way to waste five minutes.
