PHOTO ESSAY: Hope floats at Asiatique

Although celebrations were muted by mourning for Thailand’s supreme patriarch, who died last month, many people came to enjoy the Loy Kratong festival Sunday evening at Asiatique the Riverfront on the Chao Phraya River.

Capitalizing on its location beside the river, the mall hosted visitors with its range of dining options, and the full moon provided the right mood for enjoying romantic walks and floating kratongs.

Being a mall, there were no games or other fun distractions, just the favorite pasttime of city-types: shopping and more shopping.

A suggestion for next year: Trying to drive there is a bad idea, better to use the BTS Skytrain and walk a spell.
