Put the gun down: Ass hoses found to be nastiest part of toilet

From the things-we-didn’t-need-to-read-during-lunch department comes this scientific study of relative poopiness.

In recognition of the proud tradition that was yesterday’s “World Toilet Day,” Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health did its duty by dumping data from its research of public toilets in Thailand, which concludes the highest concentration of fecal matter can be found on the ole’ bum gun. Ewwww.

Here are more details you didn’t ask for: The six dirtiest spots in a public toilet, ranked from oh-my-god-it’s-full-of-feces to not-too-crappy, are the toilet hose, floor, toilet seat, flush handle/button, water tap and door lock, according to Sorawong Tiantong of the public health ministry.

The data was collected from a survey of random toilets at gas stations and temples. Health officials also announced a national goal for 90 percent of public toilets to be Western-style sitters by 2016 in order to support senior citizens and prevent degenerative joint disease.

Sorawong added that 98 percent of 20 million Thai households have access to clean toilets, 80 percent of which are squat toilets. He also suggested the time is now for citizens to take joint pain seriously and switch to sitting toilets. Doing so requires nothing more than cutting a hole into an innocent plastic chair, the officials suggested and Thairath dutifully reported.

World Toilet Day was started by – you guessed it — the World Toilet Organization, or WTO. The WTO is a 12-year-old NGO promoting improvement of global sanitation conditions.
