Thailand’s tallest man arrives in Bangkok for treatment

Nearly a month after he gained fame as the tallest man in Thailand, and possibly the world, 23-year-old Pornchai Sawsri is in Bangkok to receive treatment for the condition responsible for his unmanageable growth.

At 257 centimeters (8 feet, 5 inches) Pornchai man has never stopped growing due to a hormone disorder and been unable to walk for four years. He arrived at Rama 9 Hospital yesterday for tests and today is being sent to Ramathibodi Hospital

Pornchai’s brain is likely blame for the misfiring hormones, said Arthit Jiaranaisilawong, deputy director of Rama 9 Hospital. The Surin man also weighs 225 kilograms an suffers from blurred vision.

His mother said her son has grown abnormally since the sixth grade, at which time he ate up to six big bowls daily.

At 2.57 meters, Pornchai may exceed the 2.51-meter height of the man recognized by Guinness as the world’s tallest.

After Pornchai undergoes rehabilitation, Thailand may seek recognition from Guinness World Records, Bangkok Post reported.
