Updating a classic, Don Muang to get new shinies for convenience and style

In the before-times, landing in Bangkok meant arrival at the swanky Don Muang airport, a simple airport for simpler times.

Now, Don Muang is back from the dead after being recruited to ease the burden at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and the airport is preparing to enter the luxury-airport age with improved facilities and support for transit visitors for the first time next year to give more options for budget travelers.

The Don Muang Transit project will allow passengers from Suvarnabhumi to transit at Don Muang and fly to other destinations under a one-time check-in system. The airport is expected to support 1.4 million transit passengers per year, help the growth of its popular low-cost airline businesses, said Jaturongkaphol Sodmanee, airport director, yesterday.

Also, to celebrate the 100th year of Don Muang, free wi-fi service will be provided starting Sunday. Meanwhile the new, THB11 million, automatic parking service is scheduled to launch next year.

Welcoming 180,000 visitors per day, Airports of Thailand will also add 3,500 more luggage carts to Suvarnabhumi to support more visitors during the high season, Prachachart reported.
