‘OMG’ removes panty-lantern scene

After bombarded by irritated netizens about the offensive scene from the movie ‘Oh my Ghost’, Sahamongkol Film has agreed to remove the controversial scene and apologized to the public.

In the original scene featured in the film’s trailer, the main character attached lingerie to traditional wish lanterns and released them to the sky in order to send the fashion essentials to her ghostly friend. The scene was met online Wednesday with strong disapproval from netizens.

Why? The wish lantern is considered a great expression of respect to the Buddhist Chula Manee Shrine in heaven, according to the beliefs of Northern Thai locals.

Sahamongkol Film made an announcement on their Facebook the same day that the company did not intend to disrespect religious beliefs and apologized for having offended certain individuals. The company announced it will remove the scene from the movie.

However, since the movie was set to hit theaters yesterday, the scene may still show up in some theaters, but the firm promises to eventually purge it entirely.
