Maybe it’s the octave-too-high voice betraying a girl’s panic, the tight-tight boy’s shirts or muscly pose in his Calvin Klein’s on Facebook.
Whatever raises the eyebrow of suspicion, the global pastime of “gay or not?” is played especially often by girls in Thailand when we when spot a questionable cute guy.
But who would imagine it becoming the basis of a high-budget YouTube game show?
Hosted by the hottest out-of-the-closet TV host, Eakkachai “Eakky” Eueasangkomset, the show “Scan Gay” features two celebrity guests who determine if the bachelor in front of them be “gay” or “man.”
The show started out with the guests’ experiences with gay people and how confident they are about their “gay radar” or gaydar, the intuitive ability to determine whether a man is gay. The best part of the show comes when the bachelor-in-question comes out and introduces himself to the celebrities. The formula is quite simple: The guests have three minutes to ask questions and decide if the man is gay.
The questions are incredibly silly, especially Eakky’s occasional naked enthusiasm for the potential of some contestants might prove gay.
Here’s a sampling of the questions;
“Who’s your favorite Japanese porn star?”
“Do you read FHM?”
“Do you usually wear these short shorts?”
However, direct questions such as “Have you been with a man?” are not allowed, and the bachelor can pass on one question. If the guests are wrong, he will receive a THB10,000 prize in exchange for having his sexuality exposed to the world.
