Driving grandpa survives parking lot plunge, wife in ICU

Who knew hospital parking lots could be so dangerous.

A 79-year-old man smashed through the security rail from the third level of the parking lot of a hospital in Nonthaburi province yesterday, falling inside his black Honda to crater into the first floor. His 79-year-old wife sat in the passenger’s seat and was rushed to the intensive care unit.

Sonsak Thitaram, the driver, said he had been dutifully escorting his to a dentist appointment at Nonthavej Hospital. As he pulled out out from their parking spot, Sonsak did not notice the car was in reverse and rammed the metal fence behind them hard enough to power through it.

The couple was quickly rescued by the hospital’s medical team. Songsak sustained only minor injuries, but his wife Kannika Thitaram broke several ribs and is still receiving treatment in ICU.

Nonthaburi authorities recorded the case and said they will question Sonsak to verify his story, Sanook reported.

This isn’t the first case of driving ramming into the parking lot’s security rail. See this crazy photo of a driver who was saved from a nasty fall only by the fence of a lower level.
