Child murder suspect confesses to raping nine, killing four others

The suspected killer of a 6-year-old girl which has captivated Thailand has confessed to killing four other children of nine others he has kidnapped and raped, police said.

Nui, the 36-year-old man arrested Sunday in Nong Khai on suspicion of killing “Nong Cartoon” in Bangkok earlier this month, made the alarming statements to police who are now working to verify his confession, said Police Maj. Gen. Thitirat Nongharnpitak of the Metropolitan Police Bureau.

Two people have since stepped forward to report the disappearance of their daughters, one of which was said to go missing at a Red Cross fair in Loei province in February and another in the Bang Bon district of Bangkok, Thitirat said.

Nui is only referred by first name and doesn’t have a family name, according to Police Lt. Col. Sitthisak Nakamat, because he is an orphan without a national ID card.

On Dec. 6, Sayan Petchdon and his 6-year-old daughter Attitaya “Cartoon” Petchdon joined a group of friends to see a luk thung concert on Sukhumvit Soi 105, near the BTS Bearing station.

About an hour after the show started, Sayan took Cartoon back to the truck to let her rest. After remaining with her briefly, he returned to the show.

That’s not long before security cameras in the area showed a man in a black T-shirt leading her away, through the BTS station.

Nui said an offer of snacks was enough to lure Cartoon away from the truck. He took her somewhere out of sight and attempted to rape her. She resisted, so Nui – who was drunk at the time – choked her until she stopped moving and then raped her.

“My apologies to the child’s parents, I didn’t mean to do what I did,” he said.

Meanwhile, her father and friends started searching for her at the show’s conclusion around 11pm, and her mother reported her missing to Bang Na police at 3:35am.

Nine days later her skull and bloody clothing were found in an abandoned area nearby.

Police arrested Nui Sunday in Nong Khai province after someone recognised him another country music show in Khon Kaen province. Nui had been working for the same band Sayan and Cartoon had gone to see the night of her disappearance.

Nui had been out of jail a little more than a year after seving a nearly four-year sentence for child abduction.

For their loss, Cartoon’s parents were given THB100,000 compensation, Bangkok Post reported.
