Nok to equip jets with free WiFi Internet

Nok Air’s birds will be the first among its competitors to fly with new satellite-linked systems providing free Wi-Fi for its passengers.

One of the budget carrier’s 18 Boing 737-800s will become Wi-Fi enabled in March, with the rest to follow within two years, the airline’s CEO told the Bangkok Post.

The airline will partner with domestic service provider Thaicom Plc and Global Eagle Entertainment Inc., a US systems manufacturer, to create a system expected to cost THB14 million per jet.

Unlike most extra services offered on budget flights, Nok Air won’t charge for the service, said CEO Patee Sarasin.
