Celebs labeled in Media’s annual nickname list

In some cultures it’s not nice to call people names. But in Thailand – where friends casually refer to each other as fatty or shorty – it’s a tradition.

In the media, it means an annual tradition of label which celebrities are rising stars and which are falling off the high horse.

The Thai Entertainment Media Association released its annual nickname list Tuesday, giving 10 famous Thai actors and singers a self-reflecting nickname, which might be ugly for some.

1. “Biting without muzzle” goes to Pattaratida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong

Tangmo’s habit of responding to her fans and press on instagram with harsh comments is the story behind her nickname. Her reputation as a foul-mouthed actress was reinforced by her role in the anti-government protest, in which she was quoted calling former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra a murderer and a corrupt tyrant, and stating that he is not welcome in Thailand.

2. “The Wife-seeking Star” goes to Phakin “Tono” Kumvilaisak

Tangmo’s newly-wedded husband Tono also made the list. The nickname refers to the days Tono became well-known as a contestant of the singing competition “The Star.” His affair with Tangmo, who thrives off a “bad girl” public image, upset his fan clubs and damaged his sweet, family-guy reputation.

3. “God of Superstar” goes to Jirayu “James” Trangsrisuk

Becoming famous from the lakorn “Khun Chai Puttipat,” James’ fame and salary have surpassed the industry’s top actors like Nadech and Boy Pakorn.

4. “Crying Baby Boy” goes to Pakorn “Boy” Chatborirak

The good guy of the entertainment industry put Thai media in shock when a leaked photo of him and a Thai model was released online. Even though it’s a universal rule that a single 29-year-old man is allowed to have a one night stand if he pleases, Boy felt the need to hold a press conference and apologize to the public with his mother by his side. While crying.

5. “Marriage Certificate Thief” goes to Janie Assawahem

เจนี่ เอ๋ อัศวเหม

We are still confused how a beloved superstar of 2012 has fallen down to commoner status. This year Janie got married to a businessman/politician we always thought was happily married to Nantida, a 53-year-old singer. It turned out the couple was forced to admit their separation to the press, and the man was free to wed Janie.

6. “Generous Madame” goes to Nantida Kaewbuasai

Meanwhile, Nantida congratulated her former husband and Janie on the marriage.

7. “Short skirt tricked by square face” goes to Baitoey R Siam

Baitoey admitted she flew to Dubai to perform a small concert for Thaksin Shinawatra, nicknamed by his critics as “Square Face,” but denied the rumour of a secret relationship with the former prime minister.

8. “Rising Country Girl” goes to Ying Lee Sri Chumphon

With her song “Exchange your heart with my phone number” looping in every shop, Ying Lee has been named the most popular country singer of 2013.

9. “Bartending Motorbike Sweetheart” goes to Ranee “Bella” Campen

The lakorn leading lady often has been spotted on the back of her boyfriend’s motorbike and mixing drinks at his party.

10. “Not So Lady-like” goes to Patcharin “Numfon” Jukrairuanpol

Another leading lady who made the list because of a love affair, Numfon has been nicknamed to suit her full leaked phone conversation in which she admitted cheating on her boyfriend with First Ekkapong, another lakorn actor.
