Ancient Ayyuthaya temple gets 23M baht gift from Uncle Sam

When 400 years old you reach, look as good, you will not.

To help safeguard one of the most famous temples in the ancient Thai capital of Ayyuthaya, the U.S. government will provide THB23 million for the preservation of Wat Chaiwatthanaram.

The World Monument Fund and Thai Ministry of Culture are undertaking a two-year project to document, conserve and improve site management at the 17th Century Buddhist temple, which was damaged during the flood crisis of 2011.

On Thursday U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney will join Thai Culture Minister Sonthaya Khunpluem and representatives of the World Monument Fund in a giant-cardboard check ceremony to hand over the money provided by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.
