Draft Day: Documentary examines ladyboys confronted by military draft

Military service is compulsory for all Thai males, and at age 21 all men are subject to a draft lottery. Until recently transgender youths would be officially recorded as “mentally ill” on documents which would taint their future professional prospects. Filmmaker Josh Kim examines the subject of how ladyboys prepare for the draft in this recent film which explores themes of patriotism, duty and sexuality.
