Without its distinctive two-stroke, internal-combustion noise, can a tuk-tuk still be a tuk-tuk? What if it doesn’t create a blue cloud of exhaust smoke?
A Thai-based company is betting its totally electric, emissions-free “eTuk” will find a place in consumers’ hearts without these signature characteristics.
At TukTukFactory.com, prospective owners of these eco-tuks can try out several different models and customize their look before placing an order.
The company swaps out the motors and fuel tanks from original auto-rickshaws for electric motors, charging systems and batteries.
At full charge, the eTuks can drove about 70 kilometers with a top speed of 50kph.
At more than THB400,000 the target market seems to be Europe and not Thailand itself, TechinAsia reported.
